From our 2022 vintage, we made the decision to set aside some juice to produce our first ever fortified wine… “The Oliphant in the Room”. Inspired by trips to Porto, sipping on many Porto Tonics (White Port & Tonic) we thought we simply had to give this a go ourselves! Why “The Oliphant in the Room”? Well it’s the drink that no one speaks about, whenever I was running our vineyard tours and spoke about white port, I was often met with “White port?? I didn’t know that was a thing.” But those who do know, know just how good it can be! The name itself is obviously a play on words incorporating our family name into the famous expression “The Elephant in the room”.
This fortified Wine has been hand crafted in extremely small batches. This very first batch limited to just 300 bottles, sparked out of a passion to explore what is possible from our Vineyard and born from a fantastic harvest in 2022. A blend of all 6 different varieties of Grapes grown on the Estate, it has then been aged in carefully selected Oak Barrels for just the right amount of time to work some magic whilst retaining the delicious expressiveness of the fruit. “The Oliphant in the Room” is best served on its own, chilled or with Tonic Water, Lemon and fresh Rosemary. This is a very special product for us as it serves as a reminder to always push the boundaries of what is conventional and try something new.
